Determination of the required ladder length

DIN EN 81-20, Annex F, ladders for access to shaft pits, describes under section F.1 the types of pit ladders. Stingl’s product range includes the types described therein. A ladder must be permanently available in the shaft pit, so that it cannot be removed from the pit or used for other purposes.

The ladder length has to be selected in a way to ensure that the upper end of the ladder stile or other suitable handhold extends at least 1.10 metres in a vertical sense above the shaft door threshold.

Following below link you will find information in the data sheet for movable pit ladders referring to type 2, type 3a, 3b and type 4 of DIN EN 81-20 and regarding the maximum pit depth considering 3 different angles of ladder inclination. The information provided allows the determining of the norm-compliant ladder length based on a given pit depth in order to comply with the 1.10 m requirement.
